Clean Your Block

Web application where people sign up, receive a wristband tracker and the goal is to help out with picking up trash in your neighborhood and get small rewards.

What’s the Challenge?

The goal of this project was to create a campaign for a nonprofit organization of my creation, it was important to make a positive difference either in people's life or in the world around them. The timeline for this project was 5 weeks, and it was an individual project where we had multiple deliverables.

San Francisco is a beautiful city and there is way to much trash on the streets. Clean Your Block offers a new and engaging way of helping out in your community.

Solving the Problem.

Making a difference and helping out in tackling the dirty streets problem in San Francisco might be the correct way of approaching it. Public Works Deputy Director for Operations Larry Stringer, reported that crews cleaned up more than 24,000 tons in 2016 and that he only expect that to increase as the city becomes more crowded with people.* Clean Your Block would just be one addition to all those wonderful groups and crews out there, that are already helping it. CYB will hopefully attract different target market out to make an impact.

Creating the Identity.

Getting the Attention.

The Clean Your Block organization created a poster that would be placed into local coffee houses, with the attention to grab they eye of the local. In addition to the poster, there is a billboard ad, which is meant to go up at the side of a building in neighborhoods around San Francisco. The purpose of the ads were to grab peoples attention and lead to them to join in on our website.

Recap

What I learned in the process

I learned a lot during the making of this project. The class I was creating this project, is called Visual Design and the biggest focus was on the visual look and feel. I had been carrying this idea for some time, it has bugged me how dirty the streets in downtown SF area is and I wanted to come up with an idea that would motivate the young adult who pays fortunes to live in San Francisco, to actually step out their own zone and help out around where you live. Coming up with the visual identity was a good learning process, I went through a bunch of different logo and type choices and I ended up very satisfied with the outcome.

What I would do differently

If I would go back and redo or change how I would have approached or executed the project, there are actually few things I would change or add. Firstly, I would have considered the option of making an  apple watch app instead of the wristband tracker. Second, would have created a mobile app instead of the web app. Addition to that I would've to do more user testing, ask potential users questions about the idea and finally do more prototyping.
